Here's one of the very first 3D Assignments I made in ~firstacademy 3D Course.

The assignment then was to create a robotic hand that grabs an object from Position A and transfers it to Position B. My GF suggested the idea of the UFO Catcher (like the ones we see at the arcades).

Once I finalize the model and texturing, and smoothened the animation. I'll show you the animation itself.

I am biting my tail with great joy for I have no ID but the situation is on its way twards a great revolution
They dont seem to have many polygons so I think leaving them as polys would not make a big difference. I would make them whit polys since I'm also more familiar with them ^^;. But is up to you just my point of view.

Very good concept and shaders...

actually the orange aliens are made from polys and then i just smoothed them. for slow computers, i have to view them in wireframe while working with it but in my new pc, i can view them even in full colors.

i think i'll work on polygons and just add dynamics. another problem here is when the hand grabs the red alien, the hand passes through the orange aliens as if like a ghost. i was thinking of making them into hard surfaces and sort of like move away if the hand/robotic arm touches them? what do you think?

I had something similar with my dinosaur animation. I just made a lot of key frames during those parts by moving it little then key framing it until it looked good. Can take a lot of time but it gives good results...
